The Arizona Wildcats start the 2014 season with four of their first five games at Arizona Stadium and end the year with three out of four games at home.

That’s good balance for the Wildcats, who were challenged last year with the first two Pac-12 games on the road against Washington and USC and finishing at ASU, all bowl teams by the end of the season.

After a mild non-conference schedule against UNLV, UTSA (at the Alamodome) and Nevada, the Wildcats open the Pac-12 season at home on Sept. 20 against California. The Wildcats then travel to Oregon, which lost to Arizona 42-16 on Nov. 23, for a Thursday night game. They finish the last month of the season playing Colorado and Washington at Arizona Stadium, traveling to Utah and then finishing at home against the Sun Devils.

The game against ASU is on the Friday after Thanksgiving, a common scheduling practice in the 1980s and 1990s.

After playing Oregon, Arizona hosts USC and new coach Steve Sarkisian on Oct. 11 before having a bye week and traveling to Washington State and UCLA in consecutive weeks. That means the Wildcats will go almost a full month from playing at home between USC and Colorado (Nov. 8).

That is better than what Arizona experienced in 2013 with having only one home game (against Utah on Oct. 19) between playing UTSA (Sept. 14) and UCLA (Nov. 9) at Arizona Stadium.

Because of the Pac-12’s unbalanced schedule, the Wildcats will not play Cal and Oregon after 2014 for two seasons. They will resume playing Oregon State and Stanford, which again are not on the 2014 schedule after not playing Arizona in 2013.
