August 2-8: Bangor, Maine

Nogales held a 3-0 lead over West University Place, Texas after three innings but the Southwest representative scored three in the fifth before winning the marathon game in 12 innings, 5-4.

With no pool play, Nogales will try to battle back through the Elimination Bracket. The West representative will face the loser of East (Upper Moreland, Pennsylvania) and Latin America (Willemstad, Curacao, Netherlands Antilles) on Monday.

Alec Acevedo went 3-for-5 with two doubles and two RBIs to lead Nogales. Ralph Padilla and German Rodriguez had two hits each. Padilla and Mike Gerardo had doubles in the game.

Marcel Bachelier, Paulo Rodriguez, Markie Lopez and Mika Bracamonte all saw pitching action with Bachelier throwing the first five innings and Bracamonte taking the mound for the last four.

Nogales plated three runs in the bottom of the third with two outs. Acevedo doubled home Bachelier and Padilla and then Rodriguez knocked in Acevedo. But Texas tied things up in the fifth in similar fashion, scoring three runs with two outs.

Texas took a 4-3 lead in the top of the eighth but a double by Gerardo scored Rodriguez in the bottom half of the inning to help send the game to extra innings tied 4-4.

Nogales had two runners on with no outs in the bottom of the 10th and 11th but the team came up empty both times.

Texas worked the bases loaded with two outs in the top of the 12th and then pushed a runner across to take a 5-4 lead. As before, Nogales put two runners on in the bottom of the 12th with no outs but could not score. Acevedo doubled and Rodriguez walked but a pop fly and a double play ended the game.

John Doxakis went 4-6 to lead Texas. He was also intentionally walked in the game.
