Kenny Cardella aas third in the nation in rushing in 1953 (915 yds./148 carries, 6.2 yds/ carry avg.) despite missing two of ten games due to injury, earning First Team All-Border Conference honors and All- American honorable mention.

For the third straight year, AllSportsTucson.com presents the Arizona Wildcats’ Top 50 games in the program’s history.

The ranking corresponds to the number of days left to the opening kickoff for the Arizona Wildcats against Texas-San Antonio on Sept. 3 at Arizona Stadium. We are only 23 days from the start of the 2015 football season.

The ranking each year is based on new research and judgments for all games, not just those from last season. This year, four new games join the ranking, including one played more than 50 years ago that — upon further review — deserves Top 50 status. That game was presented at No. 38. The No. 1-ranked game last year may not be the No. 1 this year.

— No. 23 on the current roster belongs to two players — redshirt senior running back Jared Baker and freshman cornerback Devon Brewer. Baker, one of the last handful of Mike Stoops recruits still on the roster, played in all 14 games as a reserve running back and on special teams last season. He was a Pac-12 Second-Team All-Academic selection. He rushed for 99 yards on 25 carries with two scores against USC. Brewer is a 2014 PrepStar All-West Region and three-star recruit from Fresno.

Ka’Deem Carey holds the Arizona record for most rushing touchdowns in a season — 23 — set in 2012.

Steve McLaughlin made an Arizona-record 23 field goals in 1994

Antoine Cason set the Arizona career record with 23.3 yards per interception return from 2004-07.

— One of many games Arizona would like to forget in the John Mackovic era — “gaining” a school-record low minus-23 yards rushing in a 38-3 loss at Oregon State in 2002.

Mike Thomas and Bobby Wade rank fourth on the Arizona season touchdown reception chart, each with 23.
