Every day we will have data related to the number of days remaining to kickoff — Texas-San Antonio vs. Arizona — on Sept. 3 at Arizona Stadium. That game is only 12 days away.

Anthony Gimino compiled Arizona’s best player by jersey number while with three years ago. The best No. 12 according to Gimino is a tossup between quarterbacks Eddie Wilson (1959-61) and Tom Tunnicliffe (1980-83). Wilson, an Arizona Hall of Famer, was a third-team All-American in 1961 and an NFL player. Tunnicliffe was the school’s career passing leader with 7,618 yards and the undisputed best QB of the Pac-10 years before Willie Tuitama and Nick Foles came around.

Another notable No. 12 is George Malauulu, one of Arizona’s venerable quarterbacks during the Dick Tomey years. He was the captain of the Wildcats in 1992 when they nearly upset No. 1 Miami and beat top-ranked Washington.

For the third straight year, presents the Arizona Wildcats’ Top 50 games in the program’s history.

The ranking corresponds to the number of days left to the opening kickoff for the Arizona Wildcats against Texas-San Antonio on Sept. 3 at Arizona Stadium. We are only 12 days from the start of the 2015 football season.

The ranking each year is based on new research and judgments for all games, not just those from last season. This year, four new games join the ranking, including one played more than 50 years ago that — upon further review — deserves Top 50 status. That game was presented at No. 38. The No. 1-ranked game last year may not be the No. 1 this year.

Arizona sophomore quarterback Anu Solomon, also a proud No. 12 quarterback, set many records last year, including his 520 yards passing against Cal that culminated in a game-winning Hail Mary pass to Austin Hill on Sept. 20, 2014. After only one season, Solomon is already No. 11 on Arizona’s career chart with 3,793 yards passing. He could reach No. 3 by season’s end with similar production this season.
